Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the left front headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb Replacement (GT) in Lighting Systems.
  3. IMPORTANT: Block the hood latch in order to prevent the hood from locking until you have installed the hood latch release cable.
  4. Remove the hood latch. Refer to Hood Latch Replacement .

    Squeeze the cable retainer to remove the release from the hood latch.

  5. Remove the front sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement .
  6. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  7. Tie a wire or string to the end of the hood release cable. Ensure that the end of the wire or string remains in the engine compartment.

  9. Remove the hood release cable retainers from the engine compartment side rail.
  10. Remove the left front carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement .
  11. Pull the carpet back to access the hood release.

  13. Remove the hood release cable from the hood release handle.
  14. Squeeze the tabs on the cable retainer to remove the cable assembly from the hood release handle assembly.

  16. Use a small flat-bladed tool to remove the grommet from the dash panel.
  17. Remove the hood latch release cable from the dash panel and vehicle.
