Removal Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
- Transaxle Replacement in Automatic Transmission - MU5 for all wheel drive automatic transaxle
- Transaxle Replacement in Automatic Transmission - MU4 for 4-speed automatic transaxle
- Transaxle Replacement in Manual Transmission - MK5 for 5-speed manual transaxle
- Transaxle Replacement in Manual Transmission - MTN for 6-speed manual transaxle
- If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
- Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
- Use a screwdriver and pry out the crankshaft rear oil seal.

in Cautions and Notices.
IMPORTANT:
To protect the crankshaft from damage, wrap the tip of the screwdriver with tape.
