Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shaft seal using a J 35823  . See Special Tools .
  2. Coat the shaft lightly with GM P/N 1051344.
    3. IMPORTANT: Make sure to install the boot in the correct direction. Position the air bleed of the boot downward.
  3. Install the following components:
    • The boot
    • The lever shaft
  4. Install the following components:
    • The snap ring
    • The spring seat

  5. Install the following components:
    • The compression spring
    • The select inner lever
  6. Install the spring pin using a pin punch and a hammer.

  7. Install the number 1 shift inner lever by aligning the interlock plate.
  8. Install the number 2 shift inner lever.
  9. Install the slotted pin in the number 2 shift lever using a pin punch and a hammer.
  10. Install the following components:
    • The compression spring
    • The seat
    • The E-clip
  11. Install the assembly into the case.
