Rear Planetary Gearset Installation

Tools Required

  1. Apply the J 36850  (2) to the rear planetary carrier thrust bearing (3) and the rear planetary carrier thrust bearing race (4).

  3. Install the rear planetary carrier thrust bearing and the rear planetary carrier thrust bearing race onto the intermediate shaft (1) and into the rear planetary ring gear.
  4. Remove the low one-way clutch from the rear planetary carrier.
  5. Apply the J 36850  to the rear planetary carrier thrust washers to hold them in place on the rear planetary carrier.

  7. Install the rear planetary carrier thrust washers (2) onto the rear planetary carrier (1).
  8. Align the inner teeth of the 1st-reverse brake discs.

  10. Install the rear planetary ring gear and the 1st-reverse brake.
  11. Use the J 38358-A  in order to install the low one-way clutch onto the rear planetary carrier (1).
  12. Install the low one-way clutch snap ring into the transaxle case.

  14. Inspect the low one-way clutch for correct installation by turning the rear planetary carrier (3).
    • Verify that the rear planetary carrier turns freely in a clockwise direction (2) and will lock in a counterclockwise direction (1). If these conditions do not exist, the low one-way clutch is installed backwards (upside down).
    • If the low one-way clutch is installed backwards, remove the low one-way clutch and reinstall the clutch in the correct position.
