Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware Inspection

  1. Visually inspect the adjuster spring (23) for the following:
    • Excessive corrosion
    • Excessive stretching
    • Broken hook ends
    • Twisting or binding
    • Missing
  2. Visually inspect the adjuster actuator lever (24) for the following conditions:
    • Bent
    • Broken
    • Missing
    • Broken spring attachment tab
  3. Visually inspect the adjuster (7,9,10) for the following conditions:
    • Excessive corrosion
    • Broken
    • Binding
    • Missing
  4. Replace the drum brake adjusting hardware if necessary. Refer to Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware Replacement .
