Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers in the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  This step checks the ISS for an output signal.
  2. 4:  This step checks the ISS sensor resistance.
  3. 5:  This step checks the wiring from the sensor to the PCM connector.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information
  1. Raise the drive wheels.
  2. Support the lower control arms so that the drive axles are in a horizontal position.
  3. Start and idle the engine.
  4. Observe the ISS parameter on the scan tool.
  5. Allow the engine to idle in gear with the drive wheels rotating.
Does the scan tool parameter indicate a vehicle speed?
- Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4

  1. Using the scan tool, store the DTC Freeze Frame information.
  2. Perform the scan tool Clear DTC Information function.
  3. Place the vehicle into Check mode using the scan tool.
  4. Operate the vehicle within the Freeze Frame conditions.
Does DTC P1725 set?
- Go to Step 4  Go to Diagnostic Aids
  1. Disconnect the input shaft speed (ISS) electrical connector.
  2. Verify the resistance of the ISS sensor.
Is the resistance within the specified value?
560-680 Ω at 20°C (68°F) Go to Step 5  Go to Step 7 
  1. Disconnect powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector C2.
  2. Probe the terminals 27 and 35 on the harness side with the DMM.
  3. Measure the resistance of the circuit.
Is the resistance within the specified value?
560-680 Ω at 20°C (68°F) Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
6 Repair the open or short to ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Is the action complete?
- Go to Step 9  -
7 Replace the ISS sensor.
Is the replacement complete?
- Go to Step 9  -
8 Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Programming and Setup in Programming and Setup.
Is the replacement complete?
- Go to Step 9  -

  1. Perform the scan tool Clear DTC Information function and road test the vehicle with the Freeze Frame conditions that set the DTC.
  2. Review the scan tool data and check for DTCs. The repair is complete if no DTCs are stored.
Are any DTCs displayed on the scan tool?
- Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information System OK
