Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPOs L26/L32) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPO LS4) in Engine Electrical.

  3. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the ignition switch bezel.

  5. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory .
  6. Remove the left I/P insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
  7. Remove the opening filler panel from the I/P steering column. Refer to Steering Column Filler Replacement .
  8. Remove the I/P driver knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left .
  9. Remove the ignition switch bolts.

  11. Lower the ignition switch away from the I/P trim pad.
  12. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder. Turn the key to the ON/RUN position.

  14. Depress and hold the detent on the bottom of the ignition switch in order to release the ignition lock cylinder. Remove the ignition lock cylinder with the key.
  15. Remove the key from the lock cylinder.

  17. Disengage the theft deterrent reader/exciter module retainers (1,2).

    Remove the theft deterrent reader/exciter module (3) from the lock cylinder housing.

  18. Remove the lock cylinder.
  19. If the cylinder does not rotate, follow the procedure in the ignition switch replacement. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement .
