Installation Procedure

  1. Place the I/P carrier (3) into the vehicle.
  2. Install the I/P carrier (3) to the lower tie bar (1).
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  4. Install the screws (2) to I/P carrier (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).

  5. Install the nuts (4) to the I/P carrier (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  6. Install the washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  7. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  9. Install the air distribution duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Chevrolet) or Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Pontiac) in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  10. Install the radio to the I/P carrier. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  11. Install the HVAC control assembly to the I/P carrier. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement (Chevrolet) or HVAC Control Assembly Replacement (Pontiac) in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  12. Install the end of the HVAC temperature control cable (3) to the door lever (2).

  13. Install the control cable screw (4).

    Tighten:  Tighten the screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  14. Install the I/P SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  15. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement (Chevrolet)  or Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement (Pontiac) .
  16. Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Chevrolet)  or Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Pontiac) .
  17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  18. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
