Installation Procedure

  1. Align the side window defog outlet to the I/P trim pad.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the side window defog outlet screw.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  5. Align the I/P center and outer air outlet retainers to the I/P trim pad. Press the air outlets into the I/P trim pad.

  7. Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  8. Align the I/P trim pad to the I/P carrier.
  9. Reposition the I/P wiring harness.
  10. Install the dash panel insulator retainers near the windshield.

  12. Make sure the I/P trim pad is aligned to the locators (1) in the center stack and the instrument cluster pocket.

    IMPORTANT: Start the I/P trim pad bolts by hand to avoid cross threading.
  14. Install the I/P trim pad bolt in the center stack area.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  16. Install the I/P trim pad bolts at the cluster pocket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  18. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module bracket bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  20. Install the I/P trim pad bolts near the windshield.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  22. Install the I/P trim pad screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  24. Connect the RKE module electrical connector.
  25. Press the RKE module retainers into the I/P trim pad openings.
  26. Install the fasteners (1, 2) at both sides of the I/P compartment opening.

  28. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) .
  29. Align the I/P trim plate (glove box outboard) to the slots in the I/P trim pad. Press the trim plate into the trim pad.

  31. Install the I/P trim plate (glove box inboard). Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left .
  32. Position the courtesy lamp to the right I/P insulator opening. Rotate the lamp clockwise.
  33. Align the right I/P insulator to the I/P trim pad. Install the right I/P insulator fasteners.

  35. Install the right I/P compartment access hole cover.

  37. Align the ignition switch to the I/P trim pad opening. Install the ignition switch bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  39. Connect the I/P wiring harness and the antenna cable connector to the radio.
  40. Align the radio locator at the rear of the radio to the opening in the I/P trim pad while pressing the radio into position.

  42. Install the radio screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  44. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  45. Install the I/P center compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) - Center .
  46. If equipped, connect the radio front speaker electrical connector and align the speaker to the I/P trim pad.

  48. Install the radio front speaker screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  49. Align the speaker grille to the I/P trim pad. Make sure the logo is facing the driver. Install the speaker grille to the I/P trim pad.
  50. If equipped, install the HUD. Refer to Head Up Display Replacement .
  51. Install the I/P upper trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper .
  52. Install the windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar in Interior Trim.
  53. Install the I/P cluster trim assembly.
  54. Install the I/P cluster trim assembly screw.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  56. Connect the instrument cluster electrical connector and align the instrument cluster to the I/P trim pad.
  57. Install the instrument cluster screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  59. Connect the headlamp dimmer switch electrical connector.

  61. Align the locating pins and the retainers on the I/P cluster trim plate to the openings in the I/P trim pad. Push in the I/P cluster trim plate at each of the retainer locations. Make sure the retainers are completely engaged.
  62. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  63. Attach the STAR connector to the I/P trim pad.

  65. Install the driver knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left .
  66. Align the I/P steering column opening filler to the I/P trim pad. Install the I/P steering column opening filler.
  67. Install the I/P steering column opening filler screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  69. Align the DLC to the I/P trim pad. Press the DLC through the opening.

  71. Install the left I/P compartment access hole cover.

  73. Connect the DIC electrical connector.

  75. Install the I/P accessory trim plate to the I/P trim pad.
  76. Install the ignition switch bezel.

  78. Position the courtesy lamp to the left I/P insulator opening. Rotate the lamp clockwise.
  79. Align the left I/P insulator to the I/P trim pad. Install the left I/P insulator fasteners.

  81. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
  82. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
