Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION: Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION .
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the transaxle assembly. Refer to the following:
    • TRANSAXLE REPLACEMENT in Automatic Transmission - MU5 for all wheel drive automatic transaxle
    • TRANSAXLE REPLACEMENT in Automatic Transmission - MU4 for 4-speed automatic transaxle
    • TRANSAXLE REPLACEMENT in Manual Transmission - MK5 for 5-speed manual transaxle
    • TRANSAXLE REPLACEMENT in Manual Transmission - MTN for 6-speed manual transaxle
  3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate. Refer to CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in Clutch.
  4. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft. Refer to ENGINE FLYWHEEL REPLACEMENT  .

    Important:  To protect the crankshaft from damage, wrap the tip of the screwdriver with tape.

  5. Use a screwdriver and pry out the crankshaft rear oil seal.
