Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Start engine. Run engine to obtain normal operating temperature. Does DTC P1600 set? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 1.8L VIBE article.
  3. Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect PCM harness White 34-pin connector C4. Measure voltage of battery voltage circuit using a DMM. Does DMM indicate battery voltage? If yes, go to step  5. If no, go to next step.
  4. Repair open in battery positive voltage circuit between PCM and underhood fuse block. After repair, go to step  6.
  5. Replace PCM. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  6. Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Start engine. Run engine to obtain normal operating temperature. Check for DTC P1600. Is DTC P1600 present? If yes, go to step  2. If no, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool, observe stored information, CAPTURE INFO. Does scan tool display any DTCs that have not been diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay at this time.
