Due to build variations, removal of the bolts attaching the instrument panel carrier or cross vehicle beam to the body sheet metal may not be possible. The bolts, located at the outboard ends of the carrier, are approximately 165 mm (6-1/2 in) long and may contact the inside of the windshield just before they clear the holes in the carrier.
If this is encountered, the bolt can be removed by pulling it upward out of the carrier until the head of the bolt is approximately 5-6 mm (1/4 in) away from the inside of the windshield. Then, using your hands, bend the bolt by pulling the top portion rearward. Continue bending the top portion of the bolt rearward until adequate clearance to the inside of the windshield is obtained. Once the bolt is removed, discard it.
Important:
Do not attempt to straighten or reuse the old bolt.
When reinstalling the instrument panel carrier, obtain a new bolt (P/N 11516861) and shorten it 4-5 mm (3/16 in) by cutting off the guide feature (1) as shown. If necessary, clean the threads prior to installation using a die.
