Test E: Outside Air Temperature Display Inaccurate/Inoperative: Testing
- If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Set Driver Information Center (DIC) to compass/temperature display. If temperature display on DIC is not within 3° F of current temperature, go to next step. If temperature display on DIC is within 3° F of current temperature, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS under INTERMITTENTS.
- Using Signal Generator and Instrument Panel Tester J33431-C, or equivalent. Set signal generator and instrument panel tester resistance to 3047 ohms. Connect tester between ambient air temperature sensor signal and ground circuits. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. DIC should display 130° F (54° C). If DIC does not display specified voltage, go to next step. If DIC displays specified voltage, go to step 6.
- Check for high resistance in ambient air temperature sensor signal circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no problem exists, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 10.
- Check for high resistance in ambient air temperature sensor ground circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 10.If no problem exists, go to step 7.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in ambient air temperature sensor harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 10.If no problem exists, go to step 8.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in IPC harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 10.If no problem exists, go to step 9.
- Replace ambient air temperature sensor. After repairs are made, go to step 10.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle through drive cycle. Check system for normal operation. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step 2.
