TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): 01-03-09-001, Date of Issue:  February 08, 2001
Affected Model(s): 2001 Pontiac Aztek; without RPO G67 (Automatic Level Control); Built Prior To VIN Breakpoint 1S520511

Condition

Some owners may comment on a randomly occurring metallic ringing/rattle type noise coming from the rear of the vehicle that is audible in the passenger compartment. The noise can typically be duplicated by tapping on the lower end of the shock absorber dust cover tube.

Cause

This condition may be the result of a loose dust cover tube to mount attachment.

Correction

Confirm vehicle was built prior to the VIN breakpoint indicated above and that the dust cover tube is loose on either of the rear shock absorbers. If a dust cover tube is determined to be loose, replace both rear shock absorbers with new shock absorbers, P/N 10311197. Follow the service procedure as provided in the applicable Service Manual.
