Test X: Door Ajar Indicator Always On

  1. If door system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to DOOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in POWER DOORS - AZTEK article.
  2. Open and close any door, verifying that fault in door ajar indicator exists. If problem exists, go to next step. If no problem exists at this time, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Working from inside of vehicle, close all doors. Using scan tool, observe door ajar switches parameters in Body Control Module (BCM) data list. If scan tool parameter displays inactive, go to next step. If scan tool parameter does not display inactive, go to step  6.
  4. Using scan tool, observe driver's door open and passenger's door open switch parameters in BCM data list. If scan tool displays inactive for both parameters, go to next step. If scan tool does not display inactive for both parameters, go to step  7.
  5. Using scan tool, observe rear door open switch parameter in BCM data list. If scan tool parameter displays inactive, go to step  9. If scan tool parameter does not display inactive, go to step  8.
  6. Check for short to ground in right front door ajar switch signal circuit, Dark Blue/White wire between right front door ajar switch terminal "C" and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A3. See Figure. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  13. If no problem exists, go to step  10.
  7. Check for short to ground in suspect door ajar switch signal circuit, Dark Blue/White wire between suspect door ajar switch terminal "C" and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A3. See Figure. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  13. If no problem exists, go to step  10.
  8. Check for short to ground in left or right endgate ajar switch signal circuit, Black/Pink wire between endgate ajar switch harness connector terminal "B" and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A9. See Figure. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  13. If no problem exists, go to step  10.
  9. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals at IPC harness connectors. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  13. If no problem exists, go to step  11.
  10. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals at door ajar switch harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  13. If no problem exists, go to step  12.
  11. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  13.
  12. Replace suspect door ajar switch. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  13. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, testing is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  2.
