Test V: Change Engine Oil Indicator Always On
- If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LIFE PERCENT in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data 2 list. If scan tool displays zero percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message on, go to next step. If scan tool does not display zero percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message on, go to step 4.
- Reset engine oil life system. See appropriate procedure in MAINTENANCE REMINDER LIGHTS article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If CHANGE ENGINE OIL remains illuminated, go to next step. If CHANGE ENGINE OIL is not illuminated, go to step 5.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LIFE PERCENT in PCM data 2 list. If scan tool displays 100 percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message off, system is okay. If scan tool does not display 100 percent with CHANGE ENGINE OIL message off, perform engine control diagnostic systems check. See ENGINE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AZTEK article.
