Test T: Brake Warning Indicator Always On
- If hydraulic brake system description and operation have been reviewed, go to next step. If hydraulic brake system description and operation has not been reviewed, see appropriate article in BRAKES.
- Inspect brake fluid level. If no problem exists, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary. See appropriate article in BRAKES.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure parking brake is disengaged. Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in Body Control Module (BCM) inputs data list. If scan tool indicates that parameter is inactive, go to next step. If scan tool indicates that parameter is not inactive, go to step 5.
- Using scan tool, observe BRAKE WARNING LIGHT parameter in BCM inputs data list. If scan tool indicates that parameter is ON, go to step 12. If scan tool indicates that parameter is not On, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect parking brake switch harness connector. Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in BCM inputs data list. If scan tool indicates that parameter is inactive, go to step 9. If scan tool indicates that parameter is not inactive, go to step 7.
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Using scan tool, observe BRAKE WARNING LIGHT parameter in BCM inputs data list. If scan tool indicates that parameter is ON, go to step 10. If scan tool indicates that parameter is not ON, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for short to ground in parking brake warning lamp switch signal circuit, Orange/Black wire between parking brake switch harness connector and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A1. See Figure. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If no problem exists, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for short to ground in brake fluid level switch signal circuit, Tan/White wire between Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector terminal A5 and brake fluid level warning switch harness connector terminal "B". See Figure. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If no problem exists, go to step 11.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in parking brake switch harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If no problem exists, go to step 13.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals at brake fluid level switch harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If no problem exists, go to step 14.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals at BCM harness connectors. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If no problem exists, go to step 15.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals at IPC harness connectors. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If no problem exists, go to step 16.
- Replace parking brake switch. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article in BRAKES. After repairs are made, go to step 17.
- Replace brake fluid level switch. After repairs are made, go to step 17.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AZTEK article. After repairs are made, go to step 17.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Check system for normal operation. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step 2.
