Test O: Head Up Display Image Adjustment Inoperative

  1. If head up display diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If head up display diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to HEAD UP DISPLAY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using Head Up Display (HUD) switch, adjust HUD display UP, then DOWN. If HUD display does not adjust normally, go to next step. If HUD display adjusts normally, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Adjust HUD image to full brightness. If HUD image dims, go to next step. If HUD image does not dim, go to step  7.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect HUD module 12-pin harness connector. HUD module is located under trim panel on top of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using test light connected to battery voltage, first probe HUD module up signal circuit, Yellow wire between HUD harness connector terminal "H". See Figure. Then probe HUD module down signal circuit, Brown wire between HUD harness connector terminal "J". If test light illuminates at either terminal, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at either terminal, go to step  6.
  5. Disconnect HUD dimmer switch 6-pin harness connector. If test light is still illuminated, go to step  11. If test light is not illuminated, go to step  9.
  6. Using test light connected to battery voltage, first probe HUD Up signal circuit, HUD module harness connector terminal "H" (Yellow wire). See Figure. Then probe, HUD module Down signal circuit, HUD module harness connector terminal "J" (Brown wire). If test light illuminates at both terminals, go to step  10. If test light does not illuminate ant both terminals, go to step  8.
  7. Check for open in HUD dimmer switch ground circuit, Black wire between ground and HUD module and HUD dimmer switch. Ground point is located under left side of instrument panel on cross beam between parking brake assembly and steering column. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  14. If no problem exists, go to step  9.
  8. Disconnect HUD dimmer switch 6-pin harness connector. Check for open or high resistance in HUD Up and Down circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  14. If no problem exists, go to step  9.
  9. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in HUD dimmer switch harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  14. If no problem exists, go to step  13.
  10. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in HUD module harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  14. If no problem exists, go to step  12.
  11. Repair short to ground in HUD Up and Down signal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repairs are made, go to step  14.
  12. Replace HUD module. See HEAD UP DISPLAY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  14.
  13. Replace HUD dimmer switch. See HEAD UP DISPLAY DIMMER SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  14. Check system for normal operation. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  2.
