Test Ai: Rear Hatch/Gate Ajar Indicator Always On
- If body rear end diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body rear end diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AZTEK article.
- Ensure lift glass is fully closed. If hatch/gate ajar indicator is illuminated, go to next step. If hatch/gate ajar indicator is not illuminated, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS under INTERMITTENTS.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe RH and LH lift glass ajar switch parameters. If scan tool parameter does not display inactive, go to next step. If scan tool parameter displays inactive, go to step 10.
- Disconnect right or left hand lift glass release actuator 3-pin harness connector. Release actuators are located under tailgate trim panel. Using scan tool, observe RH and LH lift glass ajar switch parameters. If scan tool parameter does not display inactive, go to next step. If scan tool parameter displays inactive, go to step 6.
- Check for short to ground in suspect lift glass ajar signal circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER DOOR LOCKS - AZTEK article. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 11. If no problem exists, go to step 7.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in right or left hand lift glass release actuator harness connectors. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 11. If no problem exists, go to step 8.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in BCM harness connector. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 11. If no problem exists, go to step 9.
- Replace suspect lift glass release actuator. See LIFT GLASS ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER DOOR LOCKS - AZTEK article. After repairs are made, go to step 11.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AZTEK article. After repairs are made, go to step 11.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, testing is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step 2.
