Test K: Steering Column Tilt Function Inoperative
- After reviewing steering column description perform PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING. After performing preliminary inspection, go to next step.
- Verify that steering column tilt function is inoperative. If steering column tilt function does not operate normally, go to next step. If steering column tilt function operates normally, system is okay.
- Verify that shoe is not seized on pivot pin. If shoe is not seized on pivot pin, go to next step. If shoe is seized on pivot pin, go to step 9 .
- Inspect shoe grooves for dirt, burrs, or rust. If shoe grooves are free of dirt, burrs, and rust, go to next step. If shoe grooves are not free of dirt, burrs, and rust, go to step 9 .
- If shoe lock spring is not weak or broken, go to next step. If shoe lock spring is weak or broken, go to step 9 .
- Inspect pivot pins for binding. If pivot pins are not binding, go to next step. If pivot pins are binding, go to step 9 .
- Inspect for a weak or broken wheel tilt spring. If wheel tilt spring is not weak or broken, go to next step. If wheel tilt spring is weak or broken, go to step 9 .
- Inspect steering column wiring harness for tightness. If steering column wiring harness is not too tight, go to step 3 . If steering column wiring harness is too tight, go to step 10 .
- Replace steering column. See STEERING COLUMN under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step 11 .
- Reroute steering column wiring harness to correct location. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Operate steering column tilt function in order to verify repair. If tilt column operates normally, system is okay. If tilt column does not operate normally, go to step 3 .
