Test I: High Lock Effort
- After reviewing ignition lock system description perform PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING. After performing preliminary inspection, go to next step.
- Verify that lock system has high lock effort. If lock system has high lock effort, go to next step. If lock system operates normally, system is okay.
- Check for incorrect, worn or damaged keys. If all keys are okay, go to next step. If keys are not okay, go to step 7 .
- Check for faulty lock cylinders. If no lock cylinders are damaged, go to next step. If any lock cylinder is damaged, go to step 8 .
- Check lock module assembly for damage. If lock module is not damaged, go to next step. If lock module damaged, go to step 9 .
- Check ignition switch assembly for damage. If ignition switch assembly is not damaged, go to next step. If ignition switch assembly damaged, go to step 10 .
- Replace ignition key. Ensure key is same mechanical cut as original key. After repairs are made, go to step 11 .
- Replace lock cylinder. See IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step 11 .
- Replace steering column. See STEERING COLUMN under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step 11 .
- Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Operate lock system to verify repairs. If lock system operates normally, testing is complete. If lock system does not operate normally, go to step 3 .
