Diagnostic Aids

If complaint is an overheating problem, verify if an actual boilover has occurred, or if the indicator light or temperature gauge indicates an overheating problem. Verify temperature gauge reading with coolant sensor reading on scan tool. If readings are okay and engine is overheating with the auxiliary cooling fan on, check cooling system for proper operation and repair as necessary.

If condition is intermittent, check for poor connections at VCM, cooling fan relays, and cooling fan motors. Inspect harness connectors for damaged, corroded or backed-out terminal pins. Inspect related wiring harnesses for damage or improper routing.
