Test A: Chime Always On
- If audible warnings diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to AUDIBLE WARNINGS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- If indicators do not illuminate when the chime sounds, go to next step. If indicators illuminate when the chime sounds, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove key from ignition switch. Ensure headlight switch is in off position. If chime sounds when driver's door is open, go to next step. If chime does not sound when driver's door is open, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS under INTERMITTENTS.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect key in ignition switch 2-pin harness connector. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool, observe key in ignition parameter in Body Control Module (BCM) data list. If parameter does not display inactive, go to next step. If parameter displays inactive, go to step 6.
- Check for short to ground in key in ignition input circuit, Light Green wire between key in ignition harness connector terminal "A" and BCM harness connector C0 terminal A5. See Fig 1. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 8. If no problem exists, go to step 7.
- Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step 8.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AZTEK article. After repairs are made, go to next step.
- Check system for normal operation. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step 2.
