Circuit Description
Engine oil pressure switch is a normally closed switch that opens with proper oil pressure. With ignition switch turned to RUN position Powertrain Control Module (PCM) should detect a low signal voltage input. With engine running, pressure switch opens, and PCM should detect a high signal voltage input. PCM tests state of engine oil pressure circuit with ignition switch turned to RUN position. If the PCM detects a high voltage input on engine oil pressure signal circuit, DTC P1189 will set.
DTC P1189 sets when, PCM detects that engine oil pressure switch signal circuit is low. Above condition is present for 10 seconds or more.
When DTC sets, PCM will not illuminate Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). PCM will store conditions which were present when DTC set as fail records data only. Information will not be stored as freeze frame data.
A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction. PCM receives clear code command from scan tool.
