Description & Operation - Instrument Panel Cluster: Speedometer

IPC displays vehicle speed as determined by PCM. PCM converts data from the speed sensor to a 4000 pulses/mile signal. IPC uses vehicle speed signal circuit (4000 pulses/mile) from PCM to calculate vehicle speed. If IPC detects a malfunction in vehicle speed signal circuit from PCM, IPC uses the class 2 serial data message from EBCM (indicating the vehicle speed) as a backup. Speedometer displays either miles or kilometers as requested by activation of english/metric button on driver information center. Associated indicator (km/h or mph) illuminates.
