Check Gauges Indicator Always On

  1. Ensure fuel level is at least 3/16 full. Run engine at idle. Measure system voltage at battery. If voltage is 11.2-16.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 16.5 volts or less than 11.2 volts, locate and repair problem in charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
  2. Check for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) diagnostic trouble codes in regard to charging system, oil pressure or engine temperature. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Ensure cooling system temperature and oil pressure are within specification. See COOLING SYSTEM & OIL PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
COOLING SYSTEM & OIL PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS

    Application Specification
    Coolant Temperature
    3.8L Less Than 252°F
    5.7L Less Than 244°F
    Minimum Oil Pressure 8.3 psi
  3. If cooling system and oil pressure are not to specification, repair appropriate system as necessary. If cooling system and oil pressure are to specification, check for poor connection or open in Red wire between instrument cluster, generator and PCM (5.7L). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If circuit is open, generator will not generate voltage and vehicle may be operating only on battery power. If circuit is okay, go to next step
  4. Connect scan tool to data link connector. Using scan tool, enter instrument cluster WOW mode. command instrument cluster indicators off. If indicators turn off, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If indicators do not turn off, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
