Removal (Cutlass Supreme, Grand Prix & Regal)
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove jack pad from bottom center of crossmember support. Move exhaust out of way, if necessary. Remove spring retention plates. See Figure. Disconnect right trailing link from knuckle.
- Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor electrical connector (if equipped). Position center shank of Rear Spring Compressor (J-35778 ) onto rear transverse spring (on front of spring). See Figure. Attach rear spring compressor body to center shank, ensuring spring is centered on rollers.
- Compress spring to relieve tension from knuckles. Slide spring to left side. It may be necessary to carefully pry spring to left using a pry bar against right knuckle for leverage. Slowly relieve spring tension until there is enough clearance to slide spring out of right side of vehicle.
CAUTION:
Spring retention plates have tabs on one end. Ensure tabs are aligned with crossmember support to prevent fuel tank damage.
