Removal (Cutlass Supreme, Grand Prix & Regal)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Scribe mating marks across strut mounting bracket and knuckle for realignment after installation. Remove jack pad from center of rear transverse spring. Move exhaust system out of way (if necessary).
  2. Position center shank of Rear Spring Compressor (J-35778 ) onto rear transverse spring (on front of spring). See Figure. Attach rear spring compressor body to center shank, ensuring spring is centered on rollers. Compress spring to release pressure from knuckles. DO NOT remove spring or retention plates.
  3. Disconnect front and rear lateral links from knuckle. See Figure. Remove brake caliper, wiring it out of way and leaving brake hose connected. Remove brake rotor. Disconnect ABS electrical connector (if equipped). Remove hub and bearing assembly. Disconnect trailing link from knuckle. Separate strut from knuckle (and stabilizer bar, if equipped), and remove knuckle.
