Timing Chain & Sprockets: Removal

  1. Remove front cover. See FRONT COVER. Mark crankshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets in relation to timing chain for reassembly reference. See Figure. Remove timing chain tensioner bolts.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove timing chain and crankshaft sprocket using Universal Puller Bridge (J-8433) and Legs/Protector (J-38611). If intermediate gear does not slide off easily with timing chain assembly, rotate crankshaft back and forth to help loosen gear. Remove timing chain tensioner.
