Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT & CAMSHAFT TIMING PROCEDURE . Remove camshaft carrier. See CAMSHAFT CARRIER & COVERS . Remove valve lifters. Remove oil from bolt hole, and install Camshaft Hold-Down (J-38613). See Figure. Tighten hold-down bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m).
  2. Remove camshaft sprockets. See TIMING BELT & CAMSHAFT TIMING PROCEDURE . Remove bolts and end cover from camshaft carrier. Remove bolt and camshaft thrust plate. Remove camshaft hold-down. Carefully remove camshaft from back of camshaft carrier. Carefully pry out oil seal.
