Engine Lubrication System: Notes

An intermediate shaft-driven, gear-type oil pump provides pressurized lubrication. See Figure. Passage above intermediate shaft bearing supplies oil to oil distribution cover assembly (with anti-drainback valve). Oil distribution cover diverts oil supply to camshaft carriers. Passages in carriers supply oil to hydraulic lifters and camshaft rear thrust plates.
