3.8L (Regal Only)

  1. If LOW OIL indicator is on and oil level is okay, go to next step. If LOW OIL indicator is off and oil level is low, go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect low oil module. If LOW OIL indicator is on, check for short to ground in low oil module Brown/White wire. If indicator is not on, connect voltmeter between low oil module connector terminal "G" (Brown wire) and battery voltage. If battery voltage is present, check for poor connection at low oil module terminal "G" (Brown wire). If connection is okay, replace low oil module.
  3. If no voltage is present, disconnect oil level sensor. Connect voltmeter between oil level sensor connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and battery voltage. If no voltage is present, repair open circuit in oil level sensor Black ground wire. If battery voltage is present, check for poor connection at oil level sensor/switch connector. Also check for open circuit in oil level sensor Brown wire. If all circuits are okay, replace oil level sensor.
  4. Disconnect low oil module. Connect test light between low oil module connector terminal "F" (Orange wire) and ground. If test light lights, go to next step. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Orange wire.
  5. Connect test light between low oil module connector terminals "F" (Orange wire) and "C" (Black wire). If test light lights, go to next step. If test light does not light, repair open circuit in Black wire.
  6. Connect 10-amp fused jumper wire between low oil module connector terminals "C" (Black wire) and "E" (Brown/White wire). Turn ignition on. If low oil indicator is on, go to next step. If indicator is not on, check bulb, instrument cluster, and low oil module connector terminals for poor connection. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
  7. Turn ignition off. Remove jumper wire. Connect test light between low oil module connector terminals "F" (Orange wire) and "G" (Brown wire). If test light lights, check for short to ground in Brown wire. If wire is okay, replace oil level sensor. If test light does not light, check low oil module connector terminal "G" (Brown wire) for poor connection. Check all circuits for shorts to voltage, grounds or open circuits. If all circuits are okay, replace low oil module.
