Gauge Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sender. Connect Instrument Panel tester (J-33421-B) between engine coolant temperature sender terminal "A" (Green wire) and ground. Set tester to 44 ohms. Turn ignition on. If engine coolant temperature gauge reads high (about 260°F), go to next step. If gauge does not read high, check all connectors and circuits for poor connection or short to voltage. If all circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
  2. Set tester to 1365 ohms. If gauge reads low (about 100°F), check coolant temperature sender connector terminal "A" for a poor connection. If connection is okay, replace coolant temperature sender. If gauge does not read low, check connectors for good terminal contact and circuits for shorts to voltage. If all connectors and circuits are okay, replace instrument cluster.
