Water Pump: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable, Remove right side cooling fan. Open radiator pet cock and air bleed vents located just above water pump. Remove drain plug and knock sensor (located on either side of block) drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner and intake duct assembly. Disconnect intake air temperature sensor, and coolant temperature sensor electrical connectors.
  2. Remove accessory drive belt(s), fan, pulley and accessories as necessary. Remove coolant hoses from water pump. Remove heater hoses from pump and throttle body.
  3. Reposition coil and bracket.
  4. Remove air pump and bracket. See SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP .
  5. Remove water pump-to-engine block mounting bolts. Remove water pump assembly. See Fig 1.
