Removal (Camaro & Firebird)

  1. This procedure involves removing engine, transmission, engine frame and steering rack as an assembly through bottom of engine compartment. Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect negative and positive battery cables. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove front wheels. Drain coolant and engine oil. Remove exhaust crossover pipe from intermediate pipe. Remove torque converter bolts (A/T). Remove front fascia lower deflectors.
  3. Remove stabilizer bar bolts. Remove serpentine drive belt. Disconnect A/C hoses from condenser and compressor. Disconnect transmission fluid cooler lines from radiator (A/T). Disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator. Disconnect lower heater hose from water pump. Disconnect electrical ground straps from right side of engine.
  4. Disconnect shift linkage from transmission. Mark drive shaft for reassembly. Remove drive shaft. Separate torque arm from transmission. Separate intermediate steering shaft from rack and pinion assembly. Disconnect electrical ground straps from left side of frame rail. Disconnect electrical connectors from wheel speed sensor assemblies. Lower vehicle.
  5. Remove air intake duct. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel rail assembly. Remove accelerator control/cruise control servo cable adjuster assembly (if equipped). Disconnect cruise and accelerator control cables from throttle body assembly.
  6. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses from water pump. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose. Disconnect upper heater hose from water pump. Disconnect coolant air bleed pipe hose from radiator. Disconnect A/C receiver-drier hose from condenser. Disconnect A/C hose from expansion tube.
  7. Disconnect brakelines from ABS brake combination valve. Remove power steering reservoir (leave hoses attaches). Disconnect lines and clips from ABS hydraulic modulator assembly. Working under right side of instrument panel, remove right kick panel.
  8. Disconnect 3 engine wiring harness connectors (Blue  , Black  and White). Disconnect evaporator temperature sensor connector. Working in engine compartment, disconnect forward lighting wiring harness connectors. Remove PCM from its mounting (leave connectors attached), and set PCM and harness on top of engine.
  9. Pull engine main wiring harness through firewall, and place it on top of engine. Disconnect output lead from alternator. Disconnect positive lead from junction block. Disconnect negative lead from mounting stud, located next to junction block.
  10. Remove bolts securing shock absorbers to lower control arms. Disconnect upper control arm ball stud assembly from steering knuckle assembly. Raise and support vehicle.
  11. Position Lift Table (204-BX-75G) under engine and frame assembly. Remove engine frame and transmission support bolts. Raise vehicle from engine, transmission and engine frame assembly.
  12. Secure strut assemblies to engine frame. Remove transmission from frame. Remove clutch assembly (M/T). Disconnect power steering lines from pump. Disconnect A/C hoses from compressor. Remove A/C compressor. Remove engine mount through-bolts. Remove engine from frame.
