Coolant Temperature Gauge Accuracy Test

  1. Disconnect temperature gauge sending unit. Connect Red lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431) to Dark Green wire of temperature gauge electrical connector, and connect remaining lead to ground.
  2. Turn ignition on. Adjust gauge tester resistance dials first to 1400 ohms, then to 55 ohms. Temperature gauge should indicate cold then hot.
  3. If gauge operation is incorrect, check for poor connections and/or excessive resistance in wiring to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Replace temperature gauge or IPC if wiring and connections are okay. If gauge operation is correct, replace temperature sending unit.
