Fuel Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Unplug fuel gauge sending unit connector near fuel tank. Connect Tester (J-33431) between sending unit connector Purple wire and ground. Turn ignition on. Set tester switch to zero ohms. Fuel gauge pointer should indicate EMPTY. With tester switch set to 90 ohms, fuel gauge pointer should indicate FULL.
  2. If gauge responds accurately with tester connected, check wiring and connections between gauge and sending unit. Also check ground connection for good contact. If wiring is okay, replace sending unit.
  3. If gauge does not respond correctly with tester connected, check wiring between tester and gauge for continuity. Check printed circuit board for defects. If wiring and printed circuit board are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
