Fuel Gauge Always Reads Empty

  1. Unplug fuel gauge sending unit connector near fuel tank. Turn ignition on. If gauge indicates full, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  2. If gauge still indicates empty, check for poor terminal contact, and check Purple wire for short to ground. If connections and wire are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
