Fuel Gauge
Circuit consists of an electromagnetic gauge in instrument panel and a fuel tank sending unit. Fuel gauge sending unit consists of a rheostat and a float attached to a contact arm. As the float level changes with fuel level, contact arm moves over rheostat, which changes resistance to gauge circuit.
Gauge pointer moves in response to the magnetic field created by 2 coils in gauge located at right angles. Battery voltage is applied at the "E" coil. As the current leaves the circuit, it is divided in 2 directions: one path goes to ground through the "F" coil, and the other path goes to ground through the variable resistor of fuel gauge sending unit. Gauge pointer may rest at any position when ignition is off and should move to correct fuel level with ignition switch in ACC or RUN position.
