Code 17 - Passenger Initiator Circuit Open: Description

Code 17 sets when failure conditions are met during Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module (DERM) CONTINUOUS MONITORING tests. These tests are performed for one second after initial TURN-ON tests are completed and every 100 milliseconds while IGNITION 1 voltage is present at DERM. CONTINUOUS MONITORING tests check both deployment loops for continuity from DERM 36VLR outputs through dual pole arming sensor, inflator module, SIR coil and discriminating sensors to ground. Code 17 indicates a disconnected or damaged passenger inflator module connector or an open in passenger inflator module.
