Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal
- Remove hood. Disconnect battery leads at battery. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Drain cooling system and crankcase oil. Remove strut tower cross brace. See TORQUE AXIS ENGINE MOUNT in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove windshield washer, radiator and heater supply hoses.
- Disconnect wiring to starter. Disconnect main wiring harness to engine and battery harness connectors located near relay center. Remove serpentine belt. Remove power steering pump and position aside.
- Remove airflow duct and air cleaner. Remove throttle cable from throttle linkage mounting bracket, and other applicable cables. Disconnect wiring harness connectors from MAT sensor, TPS, idle air control valve, and oxygen sensor. Remove ignition coil assembly ground strap from fender inner panel attaching screws.
- Disconnect fuel feed and return lines from fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect emission control canister hoses from throttle body connections. Disconnect brake booster and heater control hoses from engine vacuum connections.
- Raise vehicle and suitably support. Remove exhaust pipe from right manifold. Disconnect vacuum hoses at cruise control and servo assembly. Attach a suitable lifting hook and chain to engine lifting brackets, then raise engine slightly to take weight off mounts.
- Remove air conditioning compressor and tie back compressor away from engine. Disconnect engine oil cooler lines (if equipped). Remove front engine mount and right front engine-to-transaxle bracket. Support transaxle, and remove transaxle-to-engine bolts.
- Remove flexplate cover. Use a scribe to mark flywheel to torque converter relationship to assure proper reassembly. Separate transaxle from engine, and raise engine out of vehicle.
