Balance Shaft: Removal

  1. Remove engine. See ENGINE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Remove flywheel. See FLYWHEEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Remove lifter guide retainer. See Figure . Remove front cover. See FRONT COVER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Remove balance shaft gear bolt. See Fig 1 . Remove camshaft sprocket and timing chain. See TIMING CHAIN & SPROCKETS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Remove balance shaft retainer bolts, retainer, and gear. See Fig 1 .
  7. Remove balance shaft from front of engine with J 6125-B (Slide Hammer). Remove balance shaft rear plug.
  8. Remove balance shaft rear bearing using J 36995-5 (Bearing Remover/Installer). See Fig 2 .

NOTE: The balance shaft and both bearings are serviced as a complete package. Use only the correct tools for bearing and shaft installation.
