Springs & Insulators: Removal
WARNING:
When removing rear springs, do not use twin-post type hoist. The swing arc tendency of the rear axle assembly when certain fasteners are removed may cause it to slip from the hoist, which may cause personal injury. Perform operation on floor, if necessary.
NOTE:
When reassembling rear axle components, make sure that the bolts attaching the axle to the supports are inserted from inboard to outboard side of chassis, and position the leg of the upper coil on each spring parallel to the axle assembly and towards the side of the vehicle within the limits shown in illustration. See Figure
.
- Support rear axle and raise vehicle.
- Remove right and left brakeline bracket attaching screws from frame. Allow brakeline to hang freely.
- Disconnect track bar attaching nut and bolt at rear axle.
- Remove right and left shock absorber lower attaching bolts.
- Lower rear axle. Remove springs and insulators.
CAUTION:
Do not suspend rear axle by brake hoses. Damage to hoses could result.
