Speedometer Inoperative Or Inaccurate, No ECM Code 24 (3.1L)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect VSS connector. Connect Instrument Panel Tester (J 33431-B) to VSS connector. Set tester to 54 MPH. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If speedometer does not display 6 MPH, go to next step. If speedometer displays 6 MPH, check for poor connection at VSS. If connection is okay, replace VSS.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect tester from VSS. Disconnect VSS buffer 6-cavity connector. Connect tester to Dark Green wire terminal of VSS buffer 6-cavity connector. Set tester to 54 MPH. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  3. If speedometer does not display 54 MPH, go to next step. If speedometer displays 54 MPH, check for poor connection at VSS buffer 6-cavity connector. If connection is okay, replace VSS buffer.
  4. Check for open, short to ground or short to battery voltage in Dark Green wire, or poor connection at instrument cluster connector. If wire and connector are okay, replace instrument cluster.
