Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit connector. Connect one Red lead of Gauge Tester (J-33431) to Red/White gauge wire and other lead to ground. Set tester resistance dials to zero ohms, then 90 ohms. After approximately one minute, fuel gauge should read "F", then "E".
  2. If fuel gauge operates correctly, check Black sender wire for high resistance. If wire is okay, replace fuel gauge sender.
  3. If fuel gauge does not operate correctly, check Red/White wire to instrument cluster for high resistance and printed circuit connections for proper mating of connectors. If Red/White wire and printed circuit are okay, replace fuel gauge.
