Rear Axle: Installation
- Using transmission jack, install rear axle under vehicle. Install control arm-to-body mounting bolts. Bolts must be installed from the inboard side of control arm on some models. On all models, DO NOT tighten bolts at this time.
- Install stabilizer bar or track bar (if equipped). Install brake lines, parking brake cable and coil springs. Ensure coil springs are properly positioned. See INSTALLATION under COIL SPRINGS & INSULATORS in this article.
- If wheel speed sensor was removed from axle, air gap must be adjusted. Using non-ferrous feeler gauge, adjust wheel speed sensor air gap to .028" (.7 mm). Tighten retaining bolt to specification. Connect wheel speed sensor.
- On all models, install brake drums, shock absorbers and wheels. Bleed brake system. Place vehicle at curb height. Tighten control arm-to-body mounting bolts to specification.
