Coil Springs & Insulators: Installation
- Prior to coil spring installation, it may be necessary to install upper insulators to the body using adhesive. This retains insulator in correct location during installation.
- Install coil springs. On "A" bodies, coil springs must be positioned so leg of upper coil is parallel to the axle and must face outward within a specified distance. See Fig 1 .
- On "J", "L" and "N" bodies, install coil springs with upper spring end positioned within .594" (15 mm) of spring stop located in spring seat. Raise axle. Install shock absorbers on rear axle. Loosely install retaining bolts.
- Vehicle must be at normal operating height prior to tightening shock absorber retaining bolts. Install brake line brackets and wheels. Tighten to specification. Lower vehicle. Tighten shock absorber retaining bolts to specification.
