Suspension - Rear: Description
The "A" body rear suspension consists of a rear axle assembly, 2 coil springs, 2 shock absorbers and a track bar. Track bar on some models may contain an additional track bar brace.
Control arms, welded to the axle housing, provide axle-to-body mounting. Control arms and a non-serviceable track bar maintain proper body to axle relation during operation.
A non-serviceable stabilizer shaft is welded inside of the axle housing. Coil springs are retained between an underbody seat and a welded rear axle seat.
The "J", "L" and "N" body suspension consists of an axle and control arms. On "L" bodies, sedan models contain a twisting cross beam while coupe models may contain a tubular trailing arm.
Each suspension consists of 2 coil springs using upper spring insulators and lower compression bumpers. Axle assembly is mounted to the body through rubber control arm bushings. Optional stabilizer bar may be used on some models.
On all bodies, a single hub and bearing assembly is attached to the axle. Hub and bearing assembly are a complete unit and cannot be serviced individually.
