Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Disconnect upper and lower transmission cooler lines, if equipped. Remove fan shroud, radiator (and grille, if necessary). Remove torsional damper, water pump and front engine cover. See FRONT ENGINE COVER .
  2. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD .
  3. Remove fuel pump. Remove fuel pump (mechanical) push rod. Rotate crankshaft and align timing marks. Remove camshaft bolts, camshaft gear and timing chain. Install two 5/16"-18 x 4" bolts in camshaft bolt holes and carefully remove camshaft.
NOTE: All camshaft journals are same diameter. Use care when removing camshaft to prevent damage to lobes or journals.
