Subject: POWER SEAT ELECTRICAL FAILURE
1987 TRANS AM GTA MODELS
Owners of some 1987 Trans AM GTA models may experience an inoperative power seat. Cause of this condition has been traced to a blown 10 amp in line fuse located under the drivers seat. The in line fuse is blown as a result of the power seat control switch (passenger and/or drivers) shorting against the seat metal side frame. To prevent this condition use the following procedure.
1. Remove seat control switch, using finger pressure against back side of switch assembly push outboard (see Illustration). It is not necessary to remove switch from wire harness connector.
2. Install P/N 12391711, grommet, over edge of hole in metal seat frame where switch was removed. Insure grommet is fully seated to metal frame around opening.
3.. Using thumb, carefully spread four (4) metal retaining clips on
switch to prevent disengagement (see Illustration).
4. Reinstall switch by aligning guide on switch housing with slot in seat side panel and pressing switch into place.
5. Check that all four switch retainers are engaged and switch fits flush to seat side panel.
Install new 10 amp fuse in wiring harness, located under drivers seat.
